It is an original piece that uses a combination of Lumina (lots of Lumina), and Shevannai. So for original music, I have found some use (not a whole lot, but enough) for this library.and it has worked out well for me. I don't make commercials or trailer music. At regular price ($459), I would be eating regret soup. That means I can't resell it, but I feel much better with the price I paid. Is it worth the money? At 30% off, its a good deal if you are making the stuff I already mentioned. Thing is.the more I use it, the more I recognize it from trailers and commercials on TV, streaming shows trailers.blockbuster trailers.etc.

If you are looking to make fantasy/mystery/cartoon trailers and commercials.you can make some nice quick stuff. With Symphobia and Symphobia 2, ProjectSAM explored the heavier side of orchestra toi help you thrill directors and audiences around the world. I bought Lumina to make fantasy music (original fantasy arrangements), and in order to do takes work. The dynamic layers blend pretty well though. Again.the legato instruments are very limited in articulation but the oboe is fantastic. They can add so much when added to an arrangement with thought. Out of everything it offers, I use the textures the most. No it is not outdated, but some of the stuff is limited.especially the legato instruments although what they do.they do well.Ģ. Sometimes less versatile but a cinematic sound instantly, and lots of great multis.I have mixed reactions to this library.

Sam is known for capturing recordings that sound great on their own without processing and also capturing mixed ensembles etc. It's probably a little more standard recordings. And no, using it in a VST doesn't get in the way or impede your flow at all.Īs far as comparing Ableton's non-Sam Orchestral Pack (499 Euro), I can't really say. However there is an Ableton specific version that loads in it's own interface, but it is much smaller and is just a fraction of the samples and instruments of the Project Sam version.

You can also load it in the full Kontakt if you own it.

It's a free version of the Kontakt Sampler by Native Instruments that is for playing certain registered instruments. Project Sam Orchestra Essentials loads in a separate VST instrument called Kontakt Player.

The driver involved is labeled "MME/Direct X" and appears to give good, clean results. It also appears that I may not have an ASIO driver - the Realtek I'm running seems to work well with Live Suite 8 with minimal latency. I was wondering if that live pack would run better in Ableton than Project Sam's - again, being a "family member." I prefer the sound and selection of the Sam software, as long as it will run efficiently and not get in the way of whatever creativity I may still have. I appreciate all the help - I've worked for years with midi and stand alone modules, but have decided to go computer based and of course I'm a bit ignorant on how the computer based operation all ties together.Īlso my last post was a bit confusing - i really meant to compare Project Sam's Orchestral Essentials with Ableton's own Orchestral Live Pack (the 499 Euro one). So you load the Project Sam Orchestra Essentials as an instrument in the instrument library, just like I did for Session Drums, and it then works similarly, albeit with Project Sam's unique control interfaces? Or perhaps it would be as a separate VST appliance?
